Plas Newydd

Do you ever wake up to miserable gray weather and search on your app for the nearest place with sunshine? No? Just me then? Well, a few weekends ago it was anglesey ...

Anglesey always seems to be sunny! It also helps that despite it being an hour away for us, Milo absolutely LOVES it - the long beaches and his little nose twitches smelling the sea air. Heading across the menai bridge from Bangor to Anglesey, you can see Plas Newydd's grand building. It looks stunning, so we went to check it out.

The utterly gorgeous grounds and sun shining definitely contributed to a spring in our step. My favourite part has to be the Italian garden, FULL of colourful tulips, perfect for the weekends national trust photo challenge 'tulip mania'. Did you know the national trust set a photo challenge each weekend? They let you know on a Friday what the challenge is and you have the weekend to get your best snap and post on Instagram or Twitter.

The rhododendron garden is meant to be equally as beautiful but is currently closed (a great excuse to revisit). You can still enjoy the walk to it through the woods along the menai strait with it's wonderful views of Snowdonia.

If the grounds, house and gardens still leave you wanting more or you have kids to tire out there's a frisbee golf course, a massive treehouse, impressive adventure playground and a '50 things to tick off before you are 11 and a half' for them to get started on.

I've not even explored the mansion yet but summed up: it's beautiful, dog friendly and free for National Trust members.
